Living Proudly with Tinnitus

Tinnitus Week 2023 has been an eventful and transformative experience for me. As someone who personally battles with tinnitus, I am proud to share my story and insights with you today. In this blog post, I will delve into why I find pride in my journey with tinnitus. And how this year’s Tinnitus Week highlights the possibility of successfully managing and habituating to tinnitus. Join me as I explore my personal connection to tinnitus and the significance of Tinnitus Week 2023.

1. Early Encounters and Habituation

1.1 Born Deaf: My journey with tinnitus began as a little baby when I was born deaf in my left ear. Having only one hearing ear on my right, I immersed myself in environments with loud noises, such as clubs, unknowingly subjecting myself to potential risks. Unfortunately, this led to a significant loss of hearing in my right ear as well, ultimately resulting in high-pitched severe tinnitus.

1.2 Professional Passion: Despite my personal struggles, tinnitus has become both my passion and profession. Working closely with individuals dealing with tinnitus, I have made it my daily focus to explore ways of habituating to this condition. While my own tinnitus remains noticeable when I remove my hearing aid, I am proud to say that I have fully habituated to it.

2. Tinnitus Week 2023: A Milestone

2.1 Intensity and Engagement: Tinnitus Week 2023 has been one of the most intense weeks in recent memory. The week encompassed numerous events, with many individuals reaching out to me. I even released a special podcast episode, celebrating Tinnitus Week while highlighting my online tinnitus habituation community, “MyTinnitus.club.” I am honored to have sponsored the British Tinnitus Association, a momentous achievement I never thought possible.

2.2 Community Growth: My online tinnitus habituation community has blossomed, with over 30 members from around the globe. Witnessing their progress and the overwhelming support within the community has been truly awe-inspiring. Together, we have learned to manage tinnitus positively, fostering a sense of belonging and encouragement.

3. Empowering Moments and Collaborations

3.1 Tinnitus Summit: The Tinnitus Week 2023 featured the remarkable Tinnitus Summit, organized by Dr. Ben Thompson from Treble Health. Esteemed scientists in the field of tinnitus research graced the event, making it an invaluable resource for anyone interested in this field of study.

3.2 Collaborations and Insights: I had the privilege of conducting a live Instagram session with Jack Rubinacci, a dear friend and collaborator. The feedback received was overwhelmingly positive, with individuals expressing gratitude for the invaluable information shared. Such moments reinforce the significance of building a supportive tinnitus community.

Looking Ahead with Hope

Tinnitus Week 2023 has been an exceptional journey, filled with inspiring achievements and meaningful connections. Overcoming personal challenges with tinnitus has allowed me to establish an online community, create informative videos, and host enlightening podcast interviews. Witnessing the positive impact of these endeavors on individuals worldwide has been truly humbling.

As we enter the final days of Tinnitus Week 2023, I take pride in being a host for the OuTinnitus Podcast and eagerly anticipate the experiences that lie ahead. Remember, tinnitus is not a life sentence—it can be managed successfully. Whether through communities like MyTinnitus.club or other scientifically-backed approaches, finding what works for you is essential. I hope my videos and content continue to be helpful and supportive on your own tinnitus journey.

Thank you for joining me in celebrating Tinnitus Week 2023. I wish you all the best in your endeavors, and remember, together, we can overcome the challenges of tinnitus. Until next time, take care, and may you find peace and relief from tinnitus. Goodbye!
